Its a great news for ix web hosting customers, ixwebhosting are currently improving their servers and increase server performance. For this to work, some customer accounts and websites will be migrated to new servers, off-load currnet server… and so on. Expect the ix web hosting ($3.95/mo and onward) to deliver improved performance for the same price. Not all customers accounts will be effected, only those account being effected will be early email informed.
“We have been alerted to the fact that life on your server has not been so great. Load times are slower than they should be, some downtime may be experienced, or uploading content to your sites is not the quick and easy process it once was. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, that’s great…but you may become acquainted with these symptoms soon if we don’t do something about it now.
What we have decided to do is migrate accounts away from your server in order for the quality of life to improve across all accounts. Your account may be migrated (and if it is, what to expect is outlined below) or you may remain on your current server. Either way, you should notice a marked improvement in performance!
Migrations will begin on Monday, September 21st and continue through Friday. If your account is one of the ones being migrated, you will receive a ticket in the helpdesk informing you that the process has been initiated and what to expect.
These changes are being made so that you may experience much higher-quality service levels – the service levels you signed up for.
Again, if your account is not migrated, you will remain on your current server with nothing changed but, hopefully, your satisfaction with our service.
The potential side effects for migrated accounts are as follows:
- If you have dedicated IP addresses for your domains or sub-domains, they will be assigned new ones, but the old ones will be forwarded to the new ones so that you do not experience any downtime. If you have a shared IP, that IP will change and your site may become unavailable to you for viewing online due to DNS propagation for a potential period of a few days (but you may continue to make changes to your site and new visitors can still access your site without any delay).
- There should be absolutely no downtime for email. If you experience any issues with receiving email following the move, please be sure to place a ticket immediately to our helpdesk!
- Mass improvement! We expect that this move will improve your experience with us two fold.
As a side note, if you host your DNS elsewhere, a separate ticket will be opened for you in our helpdesk with additional information on why DNS will need to change after the move to our nameservers. Of course, this is at no additional cost but it will be a necessary process post-migration.
We apologize for the troubles residing on this server thus far may have caused you. A post about this will be placed on our status blog and we’ll be sure to keep you updated if there are any changes.“
